How the course runs
(typical format)
• Day 1: Classroom briefing, kit & risk, nav refresher → applied skills on trail → observed leadership blocks
• Day 2: Full leadership scenarios, navigation legs, incident sims → feedback and action plan
• Combined L1+L2 schedules run over more days with progressive assessment on different terrain.
Assessment is continuous (no cramming): you’ll get feedback as you go, and clear pass criteria.
Prerequisites & what to bring
• Riding level: confident on red-grade terrain, good fitness for full days out
• Bike: modern trail/enduro (140–170 mm), sturdy tyres and reliable brakes
• Kit: helmet (full-face or trail), knee pads, gloves, layers, hydration, spares
• First Aid: to activate your MIAS award you need a current First Aid certificate (can be completed before or shortly after the course)
• Insurance: personal travel/medical insurance that covers mountain biking and leadership training (mandatory)
What you’ll learn
Level 1 (Intro Leader)
• Role of the leader, duty of care, group control on non-technical to moderate terrain
• Pre-ride checks, clothing/equipment, route choice within waymarked areas
• Basic navigation and emergency procedures
Level 2 (Independent Leader)
• Dynamic risk assessment and decision-making on moderate/varied terrain (red)
• Navigation (map, app, GPX), route planning & on-the-fly re-routing
• Incident management: minor injuries, cold/hot weather considerations, calling for help
• Trailsides fixes: drivetrain, tubeless, brake tweaks to keep groups moving
• Leadership style, communication and judging pace for mixed abilities
Outcome: on successful assessment you gain MIAS Level 1 or 2 certification plus a personal development plan.

FAQ
Who can take the course? Any prerequisites?
Confident intermediate riders (red-grade capable) aged 18+ with good fitness. Bring a well-maintained MTB (trail/
enduro), helmet (full-face or trail), knee pads, gloves, hydration, and spares. Courses are delivered in English. To activate your MIAS award, MIAS requires a current First Aid certificate (you can complete/refresh this before or shortly after the course).
What’s the difference between Level 1 and Level 2—and what will I be qualified to lead?
• Level 1: Intro leader on non-technical to moderate terrain, waymarked routes, shorter day lengths, basic
group management and trail etiquette.
• Level 2: Independent leader on moderate/varied terrain (red-grade), route planning & navigation, dynamic
risk assessment, incident management, and simple trailside repairs.
On successful assessment you receive MIAS International certification (Level 1 or 2) plus tutor feedback
and development plan.

• Course Only (£335): tuition + assessment (no transfers or lodging).
• Course + Holiday Packages:
◦ 4 Nights – £650: Course + villa accommodation + breakfast supplies + AGP transfers.
◦ 7 Nights – £975: Course + 3 days guided riding (with uplifts) + villa accommodation + AGP transfers.
Bike rental and skills coaching can be arranged on request. Personal insurance covering MTB and leadership training is required.
