Ride Southern Spain FAQ
When’s the best time of year to ride with you?
We run 10 months a year (Sept-June). Prime months: March–June and September–November (warm, grippy). Winter: lower zones are mild and dry.
What flight arrival/departure times work with your transfers?
Our shared Málaga (AGP) windows usually cover morning Saturday arrivals and morning departures the following Saturday/Wednesday. Outside these times, book private transfers with us or self-drive—easy and fast roads.
I land late—can you still get me?
If you miss the window, we can arrange a private pick-up (extra cost) or hold your room for self-check-in if you arrive by rental car.
Can you store my bike bag/box during the week?
Yes—safe storage at the RSS villa all week. Please label your case; we’ll keep it out of the way.
What tyres do you recommend for local terrain?
Aggressive 2.4–2.5” tyres with reinforced casings (DoubleDown/EXO+/Super Trail) and tubeless sealant. A soft front / medium rear compound works great.
What spares should I bring?
At minimum: brake pads, tyre plugs, a tube, derailleur hanger, quick links. We carry basics; model-specific parts are on you.
Do you have tools and a wash station?
Yes—work stand, pump, basic tools, lube, and a bike-wash area at base. Big workshop jobs can be arranged in Granada/Motril if needed.
What’s the guide-to-rider ratio?
Small groups—typically 1:6 (guide:riders) with a support driver on uplift days. We split by ability to keep flow and safety high.
What qualifications do your guides hold?
Our team includes MIAS-certified leaders (up to Level 5 Tutor) with current Outdoor First Aid, local operations insurance, and years of Sierra Nevada experience.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
We re-route to rideable zones or shuffle the plan (e.g., coastal trails). Heavy rain/wind days become safety-first lower-level rides. Very rare full wash-outs are rescheduled where possible.
Can I work remotely from the villa? What’s the Wi-Fi like?
Yes— Wi-Fi in apartments and terraces. Plenty of quiet corners and tables for a quick call between rides. The Wifi is not that great, as everywhere in Spain, but it works!
Are there laundry facilities?
Yes— the apartments are equipped with a washing machine.
I’m vegan/gluten-free—any issues?
No problem. Town shops and restaurants can cater; we’ll point you to the right places and make bookings where needed. Tell us in advance for breakfast supplies.
Do you take under-18s?
Yes with conditions: accompanied by a parent/guardian, appropriate ability level, and signed consent. Contact us to discuss specifics.
Can non-riders join the holiday?
Absolutely—non-rider rates available. They can enjoy the pool, spa, town, Granada day trips, or the coast.
Do you allow pets at the villa?
Sorry, no pets—we’ve got resident animals (including dogs, cats, chickens and Coco the donkey).
What’s your smoking/vaping policy?
Permitted in outdoor areas. No smoking indoors or in vehicles.
Do you provide photos or media of the week?
Guides often grab phone clips and photos which we share informally with the group. This isn’t a pro shoot—ask if you’d like to book a photographer.
Can I fly a drone?
Only where legal and safe. Spain has strict rules; some zones are restricted. Always clear it with your guide first and respect other guests and trail users.
Do you issue invoices in GBP or EUR (with VAT details)?
Yes—GBP or EUR invoices available. We’ll include the legally required business details for your records.
What’s your deposit, balance and cancellation policy summary?
Typical terms: £195 deposit to secure; balance 6 weeks pre-arrival. Cancellations follow the sliding policy on your invoice/booking confirmation. We recommend comprehensive travel insurance from the moment you book.
Do you rent protective gear or pedals?
We have a small pool of loan pedals and some pads/helmets—first-come, first-served. Best to bring your own for fit and hygiene.
Can I extend my stay or add rest/skills days?
Usually yes—add extra nights, a rest-day excursion, or private coaching. Tell us early so we can hold the room/van slots.
Is tipping expected in Spain?
Appreciated for great service. Locals typically round up or leave 5–10% at cafés and restaurants. Our guides always appreciate tips!
What languages do you speak?
Day-to-day we guide in English. We also speak Spanish and Dutch—handy for bookings, shops and local logistics.
